Professional Oboe Reeds are handmade from scratch. We feature five brands that  include professional, elite and custom models. Brands are differentiated by cane strength/density, staple choices and the customized scrape needed to achieve best functional outcomes with these materials. Cane is in the 10.5-11 cane diameter range and drawn based on seasonal requirements. They are generally beefier than others on the market. Professional oboe reeds benefit from extra material and quality sorts prior to certification. Balanced for response, tone and pitch for optimal musical expression.  Recommended for advanced, conservatory, adult amateur and professional players with well developed production skills. Individual results may vary.  

Navigation Insights: (In order of high to lower cane strength and density)

• Choose Origin if you have a very well developed embouchure and enjoy playing on medium hard strength range with high density. Choice of Marion (2017)  or Alliaud (2019 & 2022)- both MH/D 
• Choose Moon River if you have a well developed embouchure and you enjoy playing on medium hard to hard cane with higher density. Marca oboe cane-MH/D. 
• Choose First Chair if you have a well developed embouchure and you enjoy playing on medium to medium + strength cane with regular density. My choice of Rouche or Vic oboe canes from Frejus region of France.
• Choose Reed Monkey if you have a developing to developed embouchure and you enjoy playing on a choice of medium or medium hard strength cane with regular density.  Rigotti oboe cane.
• Choose Melody if you prefer a 46 mm staple to raise your pitch a bit. My choice of cane.
• Choose New York Oboe Reeds to receive a partial refund of your sales tax.
• Choose Reed Maker's Choice when you are not sure which is best for you based on seasonal factors and geography or want what is working best for me now.
