Powerful Professional Oboe Reeds For Discerning Players- Always Handmade! Best For September-June And Winter Weather Conditions.

Moon River Professional Oboe Reeds are handmade from scratch with a custom scrape to sound best. Made with Vic Oboe Cane (MH-H/Regular Density)and paired with a Chiarugi Staple for extra expression.  This cane is gorgeous featuring a hard shell and a buttery interior. Designed for advanced to expert players with well developed to fully developed production systems.

Construction/Scrape:

  • Cane: Higher density cane is drawn from Alliaud inventories. Substitutions will be made during summer months. Kunibert gouge @.60/.45. 10.5 -11 diameter cane.  Staple: Professional Chiarugi staple 47mm #2+.  Shape: Mack++ or similar. Blank Tie Length: 72 - 72.5 mm. Finished Reed Length: @ 69.5-70 mm.

  • Signature American long scrape.  Customized scrape. Moderately defined tip. (extra tip definition with hybrid scrape). Heart 40-.42 in thickness.  Moderate windows, defined heart/back with catch. Moderate spine, modified at base of reed to reduce internal dimensions and bring up pitch. Professional level response. Every reed gets dozens of micro adjustments and quality tests prior to certification and shipment.  

  • Standard Professional and Elite Professional Models. 
  • This is NOT recommended as a summer option due to its harder cane properties, and cane substitutions are possible for orders placed during this time.  

    Finishing Touches:

    • Tested in two rooms replicating the embouchure of the player I expect to purchase it, not necessarily my own.  
    • Reed prep instructions are included.
    • Light application of Vaseline to moisturize cork. 
    • Covid sanitized. 
    • Reeds are guaranteed against cracks and leaks or other defects that cause them to play under grade with a refund or replace remedy.  They are otherwise not returnable.
