Learn About Our Cane Inventory And How We Select It For Your Reeds

I am now aligning my oboe reed brands with cane hardness and staple size rather than specific cane brands. This gives me the discretion I need to choose slips from my inventory that are most likely to achieve the results my customers seek. My selections will change with the seasons. Typically, winter reeds will include cane that is relatively harder than summer reeds. Also, every batch of cane has variations. By sorting for density, wall thickness and hardness (through flex tests) I can achieve more precision in my reed making and better results for you..
My prized oboe cane inventory was purchased through a pre-test/invest model. I bought as much as 20 lbs directly from my European sources to fill my long term needs. My sources are all from fields in the Var, Frejus and Coglin Regions of France.
