Magic Oboe Cane
Magic Oboe Cane Collection
Tube, Gouged, Shaped. Trusted For Best Reed Making Outcomes
My oboe cane collection has been curated since 2017 through a search, test, invest strategy. My inventory is extraordinary, and includes six brands-each purchased in a narrow window of time when they were at their best. As a professional oboe reed maker I only buy cane that I enjoy using myself and can achieve exceptional results without a lot of fuss. Cane is available primarily in gouged and shaped processing levels, and in the 9.75-11.0 diameter range. Segments, pre-gouged and tube options are available when inventories permit or by the unit and special order. All are hand sorted & precision processed in-house for optimum outcomes. Marion Oboe Cane
My Marion oboe cane inventory was purchased in 2017 and represents one of their best harvests. My inventory is coveted by leading artists around the country, but is now reserved for reed making for the Origin Oboe Reed brand. Grown in Grimaud, France, it features thick walls, dark golden color and smooth texture. It's medium to medium hard strength and higher densities produces relatively hardy reeds that offer a warm and rich sound. It is recommended for all seasons.
Alliaud Oboe Cane
Alliaud Oboe Cane is grown in the Avignon region of France (outside the Var region). It is a highly consistent cane with a golden yellow color and higher densities. It is preferred for those who prefer grained cane in the medium-hard/hard range. My inventory was purchased in 2019 and 2021, when I was fortunate to be able to acquire all of the remains of one of their best harvests. This cane is well aged and beautiful. It is assigned to my Origin Oboe Reed brand, and is recommended for experienced players and winter weather conditions. Available for purchase in 9.75-10.5 diameters.
Rouche And Vic Oboe Canes
Rouché and her sister oboe cane Vic, are grown in Fréjus region of the south of France. The cane is grained, medium to medium-hard (Rouche) and medium hard to hard (Vic) and is selected by hand. I consider these superior all-weather canes. I use these for my First Chair Oboe Reeds, and processed cane is available for sale in 10-10.5 diameters.
Marca Oboe Cane
The Marca brand is relatively unknown to oboists in the USA, however, it is a well-known clarinet reed manufacturer. Oboe cane is available in limited quantities. It is grown in Ollioules, Var region of France. It is moderately to heavily grained and medium hard to hard in strength. It's quality is spectacular. I produce beautiful dark reeds under the Moon River label, and have allocated a portion of my 10.5-11 inventory for sale of processed cane. While tube cane is not available on site, I am open to special orders for special occasions.
Feng Oboe Cane
Feng is one of the two major Chinese cane manufacturers. Chinese oboe cane is particularly popular amongst oboists who prefer playing on somewhat softer cane. The batch that I received was highly edited to achieve a true medium strength and the conformation I expect for my best results. The densities within my inventory vary, and are appealing to players of all abilities. It is assigned to my Reed Monkey brand. The cane is grown in the Anhui region in western China. The climate there is similar to that in the south-east of France.
Innoledy Var Oboe Cane
Innoledy Var Oboe Cane was specially sourced in the Var region of France for its notable attributes. It is medium strength and regular density with a golden color. It is highly consistent and produces very capable reeds.
