Origin Intermediate Oboe Reeds are handmade from scratch and are a personal favorite within the category. Made with the same M-MH cane I use for my pro grade, with extra sorts for intermediate compatible densities, gouge, and aperture size to improve results for developing players. This combination permits the nuanced scrape to deliver a more robust playing experience than other intermediate reed options, and maximum expression within the category. Recommended for students with a private teacher and at least 2 years experience. Players with developing production systems will be capable of sounding their best on this reed.
Construction/Scrape:
Premium Oboe Cane: Cane strength is medium to medium hard with a higher densities. Diameters are 10.5 and 11 with extra sort for more moderate size apertures within the batch. Gouge: Kunibert gouge @.60/.45 (small adjustments for cane density and seasonality). Shape: Mack++ or similar.
Staple: Choice of professional Chiarugi staple 47mm # 2, or same sized alternative with a cork with a better fit for small wells. Staples of this quality are rare for an intermediate reed. Save them for future reed making or gift them to your teacher at the end of your reed's lifespan.
Blank Tie Length: 72 - 72.5 mm.
Finished Reed Length: @ 69.5-70 mm.
Signature American long scrape. Customized scrape. Moderately defined tip. Heart 40-.42 in thickness. Moderate windows, defined heart/back with catch. Moderate spine. Near to full professional level tone. Intermediate level response.

- Cane is hand tied on staple for mount with precision alignment not possible with machine.
- Tested on my choice of Loree 125 or Howarth XL Oboe.
