This oboe comes to us from an adult amateur who used it once a week for band. It is in pristine condition. She was the only owner.  MCW oboes were made in the United States in collaboration with a major international oboe maker.  The maker's goal was to create an instrument with a tone quality between the Loree and Laubin brands.  This makes it somewhat darker than the Loree, and somewhat brighter than the Laubin. A great combination for many players.  It is an excellent alternative to Fox, and Fox/Laubin brands. It is rare to find this on the market as most buyers have held onto their instruments. Its attractive price, makes it accessible to intermediate players and has all that is needed to take the player through college music programs and beyond.  Price if new $7200 (currently unavailable).  Low price guarantee- $4800 plus shipping.  Due to the nature of the product, this is an off-site sale. Call for more information.

THE BODY
Selected Mozambique Grenadilla wood is carefully seasoned to make an instrument with exacting internal dimensions and superior tonal stability. All joints have metal sockets and metal tenon rings for added strength and security.

THE MECHANISM
All keys are made from nickel silver. Keys and posts are heavily silver-plated and are specially treated to prevent corrosion. A combination of cork and skin pads are carefully seated onto the MCW oboe to make an instrument with a truly professional mechanical feel and air tight vacuum.

THE FEATURES
This is a full French Conservatory system.

  • Split ring D
  • Left Hand F
  • Articulated C#
  • Fork F Resonance
  • Low B-flat Bell Resonance

THE TUNING
Each MCW oboe is hand tuned to play at A-440 using an American scrape reed. The bore is finished to very exact dimensions and individual tone holes are undercut to produce an instrument with subtle variation of response and tone color.
