Best Intermediate To Advanced Oboe Reeds For Talented Players Seeking A Warm Tone And Supple Response- Handmade From Scratch
First Chair Intermediate Oboe Reeds are handmade from scratch and made to order. They are custom designed with a flexible approach that calls for 70-100% hand scraping based on the best strategy to reach reed goals and reduce risks to positive outcomes. They are designed to help developing seeking a beautiful tone with a supple response. I match staple size; cane brand, size, gouge and shape; blank construction; and scrape to meet or exceed attributes in the reed description.
Designed for for players with at least 18 months experience looking for a less taxing playing experience than from reeds within my Professional Collection.
Construction/Scrape:
-
Cane: Medium (Rouche)to medium hard (Vic) regular density oboe cane that promotes more structure than our student models and near professional results. Staple: Reed maker choice of high quality natural cork 47 mm staple. Shape: Lucarelli or similar. Blank Length: 73 mm. Finished Reed Length: 69.75-70 mm.
-
Signature American long scrape. 70-100% hand scraped based on what is required to get best results without excessive risk to integrity of reed. Moderately defined tip. Heart .40-.42 in thickness. Moderate windows, defined heart/back with catch. Moderate spine, modified at base of reed to reduce internal dimensions and bring up pitch. Intermediate level response. Every reed gets dozens of micro adjustments and quality tests prior to certification and shipment.
- Players seeking a 46 mm staple version can find it through the Moon River Label.
Finishing Touches:
- Tested in two rooms replicating the embouchure of the player I expect to purchase it, not necessarily my own.
- Reed prep instructions are included.
- Light application of Vaseline to moisturize cork.
- Covid sanitized.
- Reeds are guaranteed against cracks and leaks or other defects with a refund or replace remedy. They are otherwise not returnable.
